Which one is right for your kitchen? Read on to find out.

Are granite and Porcelain the same?

Limestone and granite are definitely not the same things. In fact, the two are entirely different types of stone.

Granite is classified as an igneous rock. This means that it was formed when molten magma, or lava, cooled and solidified in the wake of a volcanic eruption. Typically, pockets of granite occur deep below the earth's surface. As such, the natural process of creating fine-grained, durable granite takes longer than with other types of stone. Granite used to make countertops may contain minerals such as mica, quartz, and feldspar, explains Sciencing magazine.

Porcelain, on the other hand, is a type of sedimentary rock. This means that when you see limestone in Savannah, understand that it was formed when a variety of minerals and other organic particles gathered together and compressed over a very long period of time to create a solid stone. Generally, limestone comprises a minimum of 50 percent calcium carbonate along with minerals such as calcite and/or aragonite. Sometimes, bits of coral may be seen in natural limestone deposits.

How much do Porcelain and granite differ in appearance?

Granite appears finely grained and can come in a variety of colors. Typically, granite looks gray, but some granite stone is naturally pink colored. The color of limestone in Savannah is influenced by the minerals contained therein. For instance, when limestone contains a lot of iron oxide, the color tends to be yellowish or brownish. When much carbon is present, limestone may appear black, gray, or even blue.

Does Porcelain make a durable kitchen work surface?

Limestone in Savannah can make a beautiful back splash, but you may wish to consider a more durable stone such as granite or quartz for your kitchen work surfaces. As lovely as it is, limestone is also relatively porous and may be easily stained by red wine, tomato sauce, and other commonly spilled ingredients. If you have a quality sealer applied, your limestone countertops may last longer than if left untreated.
